Consuelo as Our Inspiration

The Consuelo Foundation honors the legacy of Consuelo Valencia de Guma through community service and faith.

In Spanish, “Consuelo” means “comfort,” “solace,” or “relief.” It is commonly used to refer to the act of easing someone’s suffering, providing support in times of distress, or offering emotional reassurance. The term conveys a deep sense of compassion and care, often tied to bringing peace or solace during difficult times.

Consuelo’s life was a radiant example of service. She gave tirelessly and creatively, whether bringing a Thanksgiving feast to refugees stranded on a beach in Bimini, teaching literacy in women’s prisons, or funding schools and essential resources for communities across continents. Her acts of kindness crossed borders, races, and religions, touching lives in the Bahamas, Colombia, Central America, and even as far as Africa, where she provided mosquito nets to protect families from disease.

Her belief in the dignity of every human being and her quiet, powerful generosity inspire everything the CONSUELO Foundation seeks to achieve. Through initiatives like distributing ‘Bags of Love’ filled with necessities and hope to the homeless during the holidays, we continue her mission of bringing comfort and joy to those who need it most.

The CONSUELO Foundation carries forward a legacy built on faith, compassion, and an enduring commitment to serving others, striving to make the world a better, kinder place one act at a time.
